Laboratory Information Management System
Project Story
Tuzlalı Pathology and Cytology Laboratory works with hospitals, clinics, and physicians to provide a range of pathology and cytology examinations. Each case involves steps that need to be tracked from sample intake through examination and delivery of results to the relevant people.
The LIMS project focused on enabling the laboratory to track these workflows digitally. The goal was to help the laboratory team manage case status more consistently and give collaborating physicians reliable digital access to result information.
Challenge
Pathology laboratories handle different services, including routine pathology, intraoperative examinations, cytology, in situ hybridization, and immunohistochemical analysis. Each may have different registration, assessment, and result stages. Sample and case details must remain accurately matched and up to date, and results must reach the relevant physician.
When a laboratory works with multiple hospitals, clinics, and physicians, information spread across email, phone calls, and separate records increases the tracking burden. The workflow needed to reflect the laboratory’s areas of expertise while keeping medical assessment with qualified professionals.
Our Approach
We designed a LIMS workflow that tracks case and sample records in line with the laboratory’s service range. Registration, examination type, process status, and results can be followed in the context of the same case. Laboratory staff can see where a file stands without reconciling separate lists.
We organized registration and status steps to support routine pathology, cytology, and other specialist examinations. We also designed web-based access to support result tracking and collaboration with physicians.
The system makes laboratory operations digitally traceable and helps deliver result information to the right users. It organizes samples and workflows; examinations, reporting, and clinical decisions remain with laboratory specialists.
Focus Areas
Outcome
The LIMS makes the laboratory’s different examination workflows more traceable by case and sample. Teams can follow process status through a shared digital workflow, while collaborating physicians can access relevant results through the online tracking system.
Centralized records and status information reduce day-to-day coordination gaps and support the laboratory’s goal of providing results on time. Digital tools support Tuzlalı Pathology’s specialist workflows while medical decisions remain with healthcare professionals.
